Review: Vivo X5 Pro

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo will unveil its line of devices in Singapore at COMEX 2015.

The smartphone brand that has been making headway across the causeway has finally arrived in Singapore, and will be exhibiting its line of devices at COMEX 2015. Leading the way is its latest mid-range offering, the Vivo X5 Pro.

Design

The Vivo X5 Pro has the look and feel of a smartphone inspired by the iPhone 6, featuring an alloy chassis and the hardy Gorilla Glass 3 encasing its front and back panels. Perhaps, the key design feature of this phone is its 2.5D glass panels, which allow its icons to pop out against the background, as well as giving the phone and overall, rounder feel. The glass panels sandwich the phone, and gives it an overall premium feel.

Featuring a 5.2 inch 1920x1080 display screen, the X5 Pro measures at 147.90 x 73.50 x 6.40 millimetres, and in terms of ergonomics, handles well in the hands of users. The smartphone is certainly not the lightest phone around, nor is it the heaviest, but feels just about right at 151 grams.

Camera

The X5 Pro is supported by a 13 megapixel rear camera, and an impressive 8 megapixel front camera.

Photography

Undoubtedly the star feature of the X5 Pro, the camera features some very unique functions. Unlike most phones which boast phones with great camera functions, the X5 Pro was not built to impress shutterbugs or selfie kings and queens, although it does the latter job admirably, with its Beauty function.

The main feature of the camera is that it lets you scan documents and automatically crops them to fit the screen.

Then there is also the long screen shot, a function that allows you to take a snap of long conversations, and combines it into an entire image. In our experience, this was a great tool for when you need to track back conversations, something that was especially useful when a user's line of work involved a lot of communications.

In line with this, the X5 Pro also comes with a great baby photo taker, great for the working family man or woman. It comes with the intuitive function of making sounds that attract the baby’s attention.

Software and Connectivity

The Vivo X5 Pro operates on the all-new Android 5.0, and . It also features a dual-SIM function, with both a Micro and Nano-SIM slot and supports 4G,

Hardware

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB RAM and internal storage of 16GB, together with expandable memory of up to 128GB via a micro SD card.

Summary

The phone feels good ergonomically with above average hardware that will get the everyday job done.  The scanner and long screenshot functions are handy functions. The vivo X5 Pro is retailing at SGD$629 at COMEX 2015 at the vivo booth, on the 6th floor, booth number 6232.
